My next review was originally going to be Hunger Point, but the movie is currently not on YouTube. Therefore, I opted for The Karen Carpenter Story instead. Click the link and watch the movie on YouTube first if you don’t want spoilers! What I like about this movie: Okay, first off, I must say that [...]

All right! The movie reviews are back and we’re kicking off the reprise with The Best Little Girl in the World. (Annie, this one’s for you.) Click the link and watch the movie on YouTube first if you don’t want spoilers! What I like about this movie: I’m a fan of Jennifer Jason Leigh. Even [...]

So much news in the last few days, such little time. I haven’t said a word about it, but plenty of others have. I’m taking the lazy way out and giving you links galore since I don’t have an original take on any of it. Since I can no longer blame my lack of input [...]

You would think that with a yucky cold and calling in sick yesterday, I would have been tossing out movie reviews like there’s no tomorrow. After all, all I’ve been doing is killing time and sitting on the couch the last two days. Unfortunately, I’ve kept my eyes more on pointless TV in a semi-dazed [...]

Aaaaaaaand here we go! First up in the movie review series is A Secret Between Friends. Click the link and watch the movie on YouTube first if you don’t want spoilers! What I like about this movie: It’s Wonder Woman! …uh, I mean, Lynda Carter. She plays Lexi’s mom, Kathryn. Marley Shelton is terrific as [...]

I have (roughly) two weeks between now and my next semester of classes. Yippie! I have some (gasp) free time on the days I would normally be doing class work, so aside from cleaning the house, working on the yard, running errands, baking delicious snackies and other domestic bullshit, what better way to spend this [...]

If you missed the Diane Rehm show yesterday morning, Marya Hornbacher was on the second hour discussing her new book, Madness: A Bipolar Life. Hornbacher, of course, is the author of the widely acclaimed eating disorder memoir Wasted and later authored a great fiction novel, too. From Publisher’s Weekly: Hornbacher, who detailed her struggle with [...]

Okay, so we all know that repackaging old fads and selling them like new is hardly unique. When the Chipmunks’ movie came out, I groaned. I mean, I was a major Chipmunk head back in the 80s, but these movie-version Chipmunks look nothing like Alvin, Simon and Theodore. But I’ll get over that. What I [...]

I recently read a delightful book called Forever and Ever, Amen, by Sr. Karol Jackowski, who has been a Catholic nun for over forty years. In the book she describes the beginning of her life as a nun – the postulancy, novitiate, and her journey to final profession. What does this have to do with [...]

A reader alerted Kate Harding to this disturbing article on the www.beinggirl.com website, sponsored by Tampax and parent company Procter & Gamble. It appears that the American president and his grand old party aren’t the only ones catastrophizing and capitalizing on fears of terrorism.   Titled “What Does the War Have to Do With Your Weight?,” [...]

About this blog

This is a blog where a roster of three regular writers and several guest writers comment on the latest news about eating disorders. It isn’t just a news feed, nor a personal journal – it’s a hybrid of both. We discuss the news with our own personal spin.

We aren’t journalists or outsiders looking in. We have eating disorders. We know about this illness because we live it. Some of us are thoroughly active in our eating disorders while some are in recovery. Most are in some state in between.

Nothing is off-limits in terms of coverage. We write about everything from the onset of eating disorders to the long-term consequences thereof. We write about all eating disorders, not just anorexia and bulimia. And we write media reviews, short stories, and whatever comes to mind in relation to current events.

This does mean, however, that we may bring up some sensitive topics — things like abuse, rape, self-injury, etc., so tread carefully. We’ll tag posts with the appropriate warning label whenever possible.

Readers are encouraged to comment and participate in the discussion. Just click on the “comments” link under any entry.
