Answer me this: Do you think it is okay for an otherwise healthy person to diet rigidly, overexercise and sit in saunas to lose every ounce possible before a weigh-in as long as the behavior stopped after a few months? What if that person was you and people turned a blind eye to your unusual [...]

Much has been written in the Blogosphere about Oprah’s recent ‘fessing up to her obvious weight (re)gain. But Huffington Post contributor Deborah King’s take on it is perhaps the best I’ve read yet. After struggling with an eating disorder and other addictions in the past, King now works as a health and wellness educator. I [...]

Here we go again with the kickoff of the holidays that lead us into the end of the year. Like most holidays, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas are heavily focused on food. But unlike Easter and the 4th of July, these holidays are pretty close together on the calendar. Bring on the madness. First off, let’s [...]

One man’s hopes for Olympic glory are gone. It wasn’t an injury that took him out. It wasn’t a positive urine test, either. Desperate to make his 119-pound weight limit by Friday morning, American boxer Gary Russell collapsed Thursday night due to dehydration. He is presently being hospitalized and a replacement for Russell’s spot on [...]

The longer I live with my wife, the more grateful I am that my family had healthy eating habits as I was growing up. I wouldn’t wish an eating disorder on anyone. But, for the life of me, I still don’t understand how – or, maybe more importantly, why – this disorder works. My wife [...]

Fans of America’s Next Top Model will see a few twists with Bravo’s new reality show Make Me a Supermodel, premiering Jan. 10. Life with an eating disorder is never easy, but the holidays make it especially difficult. Seemingly everywhere, people are talking about food: what they ate, what they didn’t, how much they plan on eating at the next holiday-themed food fest and whether it’s a gluttonous amount or an exercise of restraint that’s on par with [...]

It seems as if the pressure to ban the current breed of size-double zero supermodels is finally catching on in America. Last Thursday, New York legislators passed the “skinny models” bill, which will bring health and industry experts to the table to create standards and guidelines for underage performers and models to prevent eating disorders. About this blog

This is a blog where a roster of three regular writers and several guest writers comment on the latest news about eating disorders. It isn’t just a news feed, nor a personal journal – it’s a hybrid of both. We discuss the news with our own personal spin.

We aren’t journalists or outsiders looking in. We have eating disorders. We know about this illness because we live it. Some of us are thoroughly active in our eating disorders while some are in recovery. Most are in some state in between.

Nothing is off-limits in terms of coverage. We write about everything from the onset of eating disorders to the long-term consequences thereof. We write about all eating disorders, not just anorexia and bulimia. And we write media reviews, short stories, and whatever comes to mind in relation to current events.

This does mean, however, that we may bring up some sensitive topics — things like abuse, rape, self-injury, etc., so tread carefully. We’ll tag posts with the appropriate warning label whenever possible.

Readers are encouraged to comment and participate in the discussion. Just click on the “comments” link under any entry.
